How to scan a sign
- Open WifiNow and point the camera at the printed Wi-Fi details.
- Line the sign up inside the dashed frame. Only what's inside the frame gets read, so getting close and filling the frame works far better than standing back.
- Tap the capture button. The network name and password appear below, and you can edit either one before connecting.
- Tap Connect.
The scan didn't find anything
Almost always one of three things:
- The sign wasn't filling the frame. Move closer. Text that's small in the frame is small to the recognizer too.
- Glare or a steep angle. Laminated cards reflect badly. Shift a few degrees and try again.
- The password has no label. If the sign just lists two words with no "Password:" or "Mật khẩu:" next to them, there's nothing to tell them apart — type it in the field instead. The scan still saves you the network name.
It says no networks found
Android will not let any app see nearby Wi-Fi networks unless that app has location permission, and unless Location Services is switched on system-wide. Both are required. WifiNow doesn't use your location for anything else — see the privacy policy — but Android won't return the network list without them.
Check: Settings → Apps → WifiNow → Permissions → Location, and the Location toggle in quick settings.
The system Wi-Fi panel opened. Is that a bug?
No — that's how it's meant to work. Since Android 10, an app cannot move you off a Wi-Fi network the system is already happy with. The reliable way to switch is to hand you the system's own Wi-Fi panel with the target network prepared, which is what WifiNow does. Tap the network named in the toast and you're connected. WifiNow detects the switch and confirms it.
It connected, but said the password wasn't confirmed
This means you're on the network, but WifiNow couldn't prove the password it read is what joined you — usually because you typed a different one into the system panel, or because the phone was already on that network.
When this happens the password is deliberately not saved. Saving an unverified password would mean a silent failure the next time you tried to rejoin. You're still connected; only the remembering is skipped.
Does it work without internet?
Yes — that's the point. Reading the sign happens on your phone with no network access. You need no signal at all to scan a sign and connect.
Is there an iPhone version?
Not yet. WifiNow is Android-only for now. iOS restricts how apps may join Wi-Fi networks, so it needs a different approach rather than a straight port.
